About Us
Originally from Romania, Dragos and Carmen Mihaila settled in Otaki, New Zealand with their two daughters Alisa and Sara in 2000, when they left Canada looking for a more enjoyable country lifestyle.

Using their land at its full potential, they have created 10 acres of gourmet paradise which makes them feeel more Romanian than ever. They have then decided to make available the many breads and pizzas shared with friends in their own backyard, along with other products they make and/or enjoy to the larger public.
And "La Casa Romana" was born.
La Casa Romana is more than a restaurant. It's an evolution of passion and a desire to maintain the heritage of food, and to live sustainably off the land. And to share that with others. La Casa Romana literally means The Romanian House; a place to feed, nurture, and enjoy. "It's about who we are," says Dragos.
Choosing not to rely on supermarkets for fresh produce, and knowing they'd never find their homeland ingredients and tastes elsewhere, the Mihaila family creates true Romanian breads, desserts, meat, cheese, wine, produce, as well as deli food from other countries.
